Sainsbury's toy sale 2026: confirmed date, expected deals and top Christmas toys

The cost of gifts is a huge burden on cash-strapped families during the festive season, so timing your shopping to coincide with big toy sales could be a big boost to your Christmas 2026 budget.
The annual Sainsbury’s toy sale is known for offering discounts of up to 50% on hundreds of popular toys.
And if you're shopping savvy, you can use it tick off the festive gift list weeks before even Black Friday sales begin.
Here's what you need to know...
When is the Sainsbury’s toy sale 2026?
If you've got children, there's a good chance somebody has already started dropping increasingly specific hints about Christmas presents. And judging by this year's most-wanted toy lists, there's a fair chance those hints involve an interactive dinosaur, a singing KPop Demon Hunters doll or something that costs considerably more than you remember toys costing.
Fortunately, the Sainsbury's half-price toy sale is back on Wednesday 21 October 2026, giving families a chance to get ahead of the Christmas shopping before November has even arrived.
The supermarket's annual October sale has previously offered discounts of up to 50% on selected toys, including big names such as LEGO, Barbie, Bluey and Hot Wheels. The full list of this year's reductions is still to be confirmed, but we've looked at what was discounted in 2025 and what retailers are tipping to be the most-wanted Christmas toys of 2026.
Here's what to know before you start filling the trolley.
How much can shoppers save in the Sainsbury's 2026 toy sale?
You can expect to save as much as 50% on some popular toys during the sale, making it well worth marking out the event in your diary.
You can already make top savings of up to 30% as part of Argos' Big Red event which includes popular Lego and Bluey items.
What are the most wanted Christmas toys for 2026?
If you're wondering what might be worth looking out for in the Sainsbury's toy sale, we've had a few clues from the people whose job it is to predict what children will be pestering us for this Christmas.
Argos, Hamleys and The Entertainer have all released their Christmas 2026 toy predictions, and there are some interesting overlaps.
The £55 Primal Hatch Megalodon, a prehistoric shark that hatches from an egg, has appeared on all three lists, alongside the £30 Ready, Pedal, Go Peppa Pig toy.
KPop Demon Hunters is also making its presence felt, with Golden Singing Dolls costing £35 each. They're featured on the Christmas predictions from both Argos and John Lewis.
If you're hoping for a slightly quieter Christmas morning, bad news. Interactive pets, musical toys and dinosaurs seem to be doing particularly well this year.

These are retailers' advertised prices and Christmas toy predictions, not confirmed Sainsbury's sale offers. Some toys may be retailer exclusives.
There's quite a range here, from £10 squishy toys to a £150 LEGO set, which is reassuring if you're trying to find presents that won't require a discussion with your mortgage provider.
The £10 Big Squij toys are particularly interesting. Hamleys has tipped these squishy sensory toys, which come in shapes including bananas and other food items, as one of this year's Christmas hits. Apparently, sometimes all you need to compete with the latest interactive technology is a very squeezable piece of fruit.
Meanwhile, the £55 Megalodon is worth keeping an eye on simply because it's appeared on three separate Christmas lists, suggesting that toy buyers expect demand to be strong.
But these lists are predictions, not guarantees of what children will actually want, and certainly not guarantees of what Sainsbury's will discount.
I'd use them as a starting point for checking prices, not as a shopping list in their own right. The most-wanted toy in Britain is still a waste of money if the child you're buying for has absolutely no interest in it.
Is the Sainsbury's toy sale available online?
The Sainsbury’s toy sale is usually an in-store event with discounted prices generally not available through the supermarket's website, although they have suggested that this year there will be limited availability online.
When does Aldi's toy sale start?
It's not just Sainsbury's running toy sales.
Aldi is known for its popular wooden toy Specialbuys. This year the event starts on 8 October and includes wooden play kitchens as well as vanity units at great prices.
Lidl is also running its wooden toy sale on the same day with role-play toys, books and wooden play equipment at competitive prices.
Once these Specialbuys and Middle Aisle promotions are gone, they're gone so to your nearest store sooner rather than later for the best deals.
Is the Sainsbury's toy sale cheaper than Black Friday?
Black Friday falls on 27 November 2026, so there's still more than a month between Sainsbury's October toy sale and one of the biggest shopping events of the year.
It's tempting to hold out for the biggest possible discount, but there's no guarantee Black Friday will be cheaper. Argos, Smyths Toys, Amazon and other retailers are already competing for Christmas shoppers, and prices can move several times between now and December.
My advice is to decide what you'd be happy to pay before you start looking at the discounts.
If your child has been asking for a particular LEGO set since the summer, it's on your list and you've found it at a genuinely competitive price, fantastic. You can get it bought, hidden somewhere they'll never think to look and tick one Christmas present off the list.
But if you're buying something simply because it's half price, consider whether you'd have wanted it at full price in the first place.
A £50 toy reduced to £25 isn't a £25 saving if you weren't planning to buy it. It's £25 you've spent, however enthusiastic the promotional sticker might be.
It's also worth checking exact product names and model numbers when comparing prices. LEGO sets, Barbie dolls and interactive toys can look remarkably similar while having different contents and prices.
And don't automatically spend the money you've saved on another present. If you budgeted £60 and found the toy for £40, that £20 could do considerably more good sitting in your account until January.

Is the Sainsbury's toy sale online or in-store only?
The main sale has traditionally been associated with larger Sainsbury's supermarkets, although selected discounted toys were available online in 2025. Online availability for 2026 may differ, so check the Sainsbury's website before shopping.

Not necessarily. Some Sainsbury's promotions are available to all shoppers, while others have Nectar-exclusive prices. Check the offer conditions before paying.

The 2025 event began on 22 October and its main promotional period ran through 28 October. The 2026 end date hasn't yet been verified.

Retailers' Christmas predictions include Primal Hatch Megalodon, Peppa Pig Ready, Pedal, Go, KPop Demon Hunters singing dolls, LEGO, Barbie, interactive pets and squishy sensory toys. These are forecasts rather than confirmed sales rankings.
Is it worth buying toys in October rather than waiting for Black Friday?
It can be, particularly if you've found a toy that was already on your Christmas list at a genuinely competitive price. Black Friday isn't guaranteed to offer the cheapest price, so compare the exact toy across retailers rather than relying on the advertised discount.

Stock availability and restocking arrangements haven't been confirmed for 2026. Popular toys may sell out before the sale finishes, and availability can vary between stores.
